To raise international awareness about the Christian roots and the history of the Christian presence in the Holy Land, through the extraordinary archaeological, artistic and historic collections of the Franciscans of the Holy Land.
Today, more than ever, it is of critical importance to make the whole world know about the history of the Christian presence in the Holy Land: to foster a better understanding of our roots, to contribute to the unity of the “human family”, and to carry a message of peace to the world.
A museum in God’s chosen land
The Terra Sancta Museum also aims at promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue through the establishment of a modern and dynamic exhibition centre. The museum will tell the history of a fascinating land, in which since millennia the fates of many peoples living together and sharing places sacred to the three great monotheistic religions have been mysteriously intertwined.
The museum will contribute to the social and economic development of local communities through the promotion of the cultural heritage of the Holy Places – a heritage that has been preserved by the Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land throughout 8 centuries during which they have been present in the region.
