Schools activities

The Terra Sancta Museum aims at promoting the local cultural – historical and religious – heritage in collaboration with schools. During the years 2016 – 2017 thanks to the project “To Learn closely: guided tours to historical and religious sites” more than 2000 students from Arab schools of Jerusalem have been visiting the Via Dolorosa section. Many of them came back with friends or relatives.

Due to the lack of opportunities of visiting anything outside their residential neighborhoods, this kind of collaboration among schools and cultural associations – such as the museum and the Mosaic Center of  Jericho – brings new hope of a greater integration among the people thanks to cultural exchanges, one of the best tools for Peace.

We have been developing a project wholly dedicated to the young people in the local Palestinian community since February 2020, thanks to the contribution of the European Union.

The aim of the project is to support the creation of a real “educational department” for the  Terra Sancta Museum, starting from the specific programmes for local Arabic-speaking schools.
We are creating educational activities and support for the schools, we are training young local people who are passionate about culture and museums, we are creating a network of relations with the community in East Jerusalem (museums, cultural centres, NGOs, schools, institutions …) and we are welcoming many children and teenagers to the museum!

In three years, thanks to this project, we will be able to bring to the museum at least 10,000 Palestinian students from East Jerusalem, 2000 young people from 18 to 30 and 200 families. We will set up a dedicated space for the educational activities,  we will develop a catalogue of activities for schools and families, we will create occasions for meeting, learning and leisure which involve the local community and make the museum more family-friendly.
